Our story
Founded in January 2022 by René Haas and Silvain Toromanoff, we are a dedicated team of 10+ individuals committed to combating climate change.
The story behind NeoCarbon begins with René, an industrial engineer with a master in energy and resource management who previously scaled teams to 100+ people in a Berlin-based scale-up. At the same time, Silvain, also an engineer, who previously exited his previous start-up as CTO, became increasingly concerned about the climate crisis early in his career.
Together, they combined their expertise and shared values to create NeoCarbon and build a like-minded team.
Our goal at NeoCarbon is to make a real impact by developing groundbreaking Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology. With our innovative approach and unwavering determination, we are working towards a sustainable future for all.

René is a strongly value-driven industrial engineer. As CEO, he sets NeoCarbon's strategic direction.
Silvain Toromanoff
Silvain is passionate about innovation for as long as he can remember. As CTO, he oversees the technology development of NeoCarbon.
Dr. Andrew Shamu
Andrew follows his great passion for utilizing his expertise to advance sustainable technologies. As Head of R&D, he provides direction for the research and development of NeoCarbon's technology.
Dr. Anastasia Karela
Anastasia is enthusiastic about research on sustainable processes and materials. As the Chemical Engineer, she is focusing on developing and testing novel materials for CO2 capture.
Dr. Nirmal Kuanr
Nirmal is highly motivated by development of sustainable and green technologies. As the Molecular Chemist, he develops materials to advance NeoCarbon’s technology.
Pierce Dias
Pierce is a multidisciplinary engineer with a passion for designing and building automation systems. At NeoCarbon he focuses on mechanical and electrical design of equipment.
Daniël Besselink
Daniël is very excited about sustainable growth. As partnerships manager, he aims to collaborate with external companies to develop NeoCarbon further.
