Senior Process Development Engineer

Berlin, Germany

Your role

Are you a passionate problem-solver with a deep understanding of Process Engineering and a drive to make a meaningful impact in the fight against climate change? Join us at NeoCarbon, a fast-growing startup on a mission to develop a cost-effective Direct Air Capture (DAC) solution to capture CO2 from the atmosphere. We’re looking for an intrinsically motivated Process Development Engineer who is excited about tackling complex challenges and pushing the boundaries of innovation in the ClimateTech field. If you thrive in a dynamic, startup environment and are driven by the urgency of addressing climate change, we want to hear from you!

What you will do

  • Design and optimize our processes: Lead the development, design, and optimization of our DAC processes and experimental setups, while preparing related documentation such as PFDs and P&IDs.
  • Conduct experiments and analyze plant operating data: Operate our pilots under selected experimental conditions to optimize plant performance while gathering valuable insights for our commercial products, at our Berlin premises as well as customers’ sites.
  • Ensure thermal integration: Conduct thermal integration studies, including pinch analysis, heat exchange networks, and the management of condensation/evaporation processes.
  • Lead HAZOPs and design assessments: Facilitate HAZOP studies, proactively identifying and mitigating potential design issues early in the development process.
  • Pilot plant design, commissioning, and operation: Conduct commissioning, system startup, initial troubleshooting, and maintenance of pilot plants at customer sites to ensure rapid and seamless operations.
  • Support project management: Contribute to process engineering project management, ensuring the successful execution of our DAC pilot projects.

What we are looking for

  • 5+ years of experience as a Process Development Engineer or in a similar role in industrial settings, with a proven track record of scaling processes from pilot stage to industrialization (TRL5 to TRL9).
  • Master's or PhD degree in Process Engineering with a focus on thermal solid/gas processes preferably in the field of adsorption technology.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, paired with a deep understanding of the physical phenomena in thermal and vacuum processes.
  • Extensive knowledge of fluid handling, steam, and vacuum systems, along with an intuitive grasp of process-related challenges.
  • Hands-on experience operating, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining various pilot systems, with the ability to factor these experiences into the design of new processes.
  • An interdisciplinary, value-driven individual with strong organizational and communication skills, passionate about innovation, startups, and climate solutions.

What you will get

  • Work within an early fast-growing ClimateTech startup located in Berlin
  • Flat hierarchy and highly motivated team
  • English speaking company
  • Self-managed working hours (including partly remote possibility)
  • Flexible holiday arrangements
  • Regular informal team events
  • Equity package
