Junior Chemical Engineer
Berlin, Germany
Your role
As a Junior Chemical Engineer, you will be part of NeoCarbon’s product team, working closely with our R&D Chemical Engineer Anastasia and our R&D Chemist Nirmal. In practice, you will support the research and laboratory work, being involved in the characterization of new sorbent materials for Direct Air Capture (DAC). The scope of this work will be to gain an in-depth understanding of the sorbents’ behaviour and performance under varying operating conditions, with an aim to identify the most promising materials and increase the feasibility of the DAC process.
What you will do
• Assist with performance characterisation experiments of existing or newly synthesized DAC materials under a wide range of operating conditions.
• Identify links between the materials’ structural and chemical characteristics and their performance under various conditions.
• Investigate the degradation behaviour of the sorbents.
• Process experimental data and validate with theoretical models; formulate hypotheses, justify the observed performance, and propose next steps.
• Help with enhancing the characterization setup & constructing additional small-scale setups.
• Conduct literature review, brainstorm for next generation reactor and perform small scale experiments to de-risk assumptions.
What we are looking for
• Graduate in chemical engineering (or related disciplines).
• Basic understanding of chemical engineering processes & small-scale testing setup experiments.
• Familiarity with analytical instrumentation (e.g. TGA).
• Experience with experimental data processing and related software (i.e. OriginLab).
• Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to analyze data in detail and optimize next steps based on gained insights.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Nice to have: Master’s degree, a background on gas processing & sorption applications.
• Availability 40h/week; 6 month initially with a potential to extension.
• Passionate about climate and sustainability.
What you will get
• Work within an early fast-growing ClimateTech startup located in Berlin.
• Great learning environment in the field of chemical engineering but also in other areas of DAC.
• Fair market standard salary.
• Possibility of working autonomously.
• Flat hierarchy and highly motivated team.
• English-speaking company with an internationally diverse team.
• Self-managed working hours (including partly remote possibility).
• Flexible holiday arrangement.
• Regular team events.
• Access to Nextbike rentals across Germany, highly subsidized membership to Urban Sports club (for meditation, Zumba, fitness, yoga, etc.), and Deutschland ticket discount.
